For over two decades, I stood as a secondary math teacher, navigating the shift from traditional instruction to the dynamic, student-centered vision we see today. Following that, I spent several pivotal years in secondary mathematics instructional coaching gaining critical insight into scaling effective instruction across departments and school sites.
I know firsthand the struggle of implementing new frameworks, the challenge of building teacher buy-in and the absolute necessity of making math relevant for every student. As a current School Board Trustee, I understand the critical governance, fiscal, and policy pressures that drive your decision-making, particularly around the LCAP.
My consulting practice is built on the understanding that sustainable change happens when we empower teachers and build instructional coherence. I translate complex research—like the California Math Framework (CMF)—into actionable, high-leverage strategies that transform 7-12 math classrooms into equitable spaces where genuine mathematical discourse thrives.
My professional journey has provided a unique perspective that spans the entire educational pipeline:
Governance & Policy : As a School Board Trustee for Modesto City Schools, I bring a rare, real-time understanding of the governance structure, budget cycles, and policy development required to successfully implement large-scale initiatives like the LCAP. I ensure your instructional solutions are always strategically aligned with board-approved priorities and fiscal realities.
20 Years in the Classroom: I taught nearly every secondary math course, from 7th Grade Math to advanced courses like AP Calculus BC and AP Statistics. This breadth ensures I understand the specific content challenges across all grade levels.
Dedicated Coaching Experience: I spent several pivotal years serving as a secondary mathematics instructional coach, sharpening my expertise in observation-feedback cycles, learning labs and developing department-level capacity for continuous improvement.
Higher Education & AP: I served as a part-time Lecturer at California State University, Stanislaus and spent several years as an AP Statistics Reader.
My passion for education is entrenched in my work with educators and educational leaders. Through my experience in coaching, presentations, and workshops I have supported educators in building more equitable spaces where students feel a true sense of belonging as mathematicians.
My focus areas for your district include:
Implementing instructional practices that foster authentic student discourse in 7-12 math.
Aligning local curriculum and assessment to the principles of the CA Math Framework.
Developing department-level leadership and sustained internal coaching capacity.
When I am not partnering with schools or serving the community through my board role, you can usually find me spending time with my wife and children, following professional sports, or occasionally singing with my band.
